Our journey began early in the morning from Pune, setting out on a two-day pilgrimage through the sacred destinations of Maharashtra. We drove toward Nashik, one of the most revered cities associated with Lord Rama’s years in exile.
Taked Jatayu Temple
After a five-hour drive, our first stop was the historic Taked Jatayu Temple, dedicated to the valiant bird Jatayu who fought Ravana during Sita’s abduction. The serene temple complex preserves the memory of his sacrifice and marks an important episode from the Ramayana.

Nashik – Exploring Ramayana Sites
From Taked, a 50 km drive brought us to Nashik, where we began exploring the legendary sites associated with Lord Rama, Sita, and Lakshmana.
Kalaram Mandir
One of Nashik’s most iconic temples, the Kalaram Mandir houses a striking black stone idol of Lord Rama. The architecture and sanctity of the shrine make it a central landmark in the Panchavati area.

Panchavati
This sacred grove, once home to Rama, Sita, and Lakshmana during their exile, is dotted with temples, ghats, and mythological landmarks. Panchavati forms the spiritual heart of Nashik, and the five banyan trees that lend it its name are clearly marked for visitors.

Sita Guha
Sita Guha (Sita Cave) is believed to be the spot where Sita stayed during exile. Visitors pass through narrow rock passages to reach this revered cave shrine dedicated to Rama, Sita, and Lakshmana.

Kapila–Godavari Confluence
The peaceful confluence of the Kapila and Godavari rivers holds great spiritual significance. Nearby are the ancient Brahma, Vishnu, and Mahesh Kunds, three sacred water tanks representing the Hindu trinity.
Sita Mata Agni Kund
According to local tradition, this site commemorates Sita’s ritual fire trial. It stands as a symbolic reminder of purity and resilience.
Shurpanakha Naka Kati
This is believed to be the place where Lakshmana cut off Shurpanakha’s nose, an incident that set the stage for the conflict with Ravana. The spot is marked and revered by devotees.

Lakshman Rekha
A symbolic representation of the protective line drawn by Lakshmana to safeguard Sita in their forest dwelling. The site reflects one of the most pivotal moments in the Ramayana.
Ram Parnakuti
A modest hut-like structure symbolizing the forest dwelling (parnakuti) of Lord Rama during his stay in Panchavati.
Sita Haran Site
This spot is traditionally believed to be the very location from where Ravana abducted Sita. A small temple stands here to symbolize the event.
Nashik to Shirdi
By afternoon, we resumed our journey with a two-hour drive to Shirdi, one of India’s most visited pilgrimage towns.
Sai Baba Mandir – Arti & Darshan
We attended the evening Arti at the Sai Baba Mandir, a profound and uplifting spiritual experience.

We spent the night at Hotel Dwarka Park, ensuring a comfortable stay before our onward journey.
Sai Teerth Theme Park
Before heading for our flight to Chennai the next day, we made a quick stop at the Sai Teerth Theme Park. This innovative spiritual theme park offers engaging shows that blend devotion with modern technology.
