Redwood National Park

Itinerary (About half a day at the Park)– May 2024

Phoenix to Seattle Road Trip – May 2024 (7 National Parks and Lake Tahoe & Portland sights)

Redwood National Park, California is home to the world’s tallest trees, with some redwoods reaching heights of 380 feet and ages of approximately 2000 years.

Due to time constraints from a lengthy drive, we focused our visit on just one trail and one scenic drive to experience these magnificent trees.

Trillium Falls Trail

This beautiful hike winds through impressive redwood groves. The waterfall is located less than a mile along the trail, where we enjoyed the views before turning back.

Drury Scenic Parkway

This beautiful 10-mile drive branches off the highway and eventually reconnects with it. Massive redwoods line both sides of the road, with multiple points with wide shoulders available to view the trees up close and take photos.

A Minor Challenge

Our visit began with a small complication – the park website had announced all visitor centers would be closed for staff meetings, though fortunately the park itself remained open.

Since we were determined to get a cancellation stamp for our National Parks passport book, we worried about how to accomplish this without access to a visitor center. We even considered extending our stay and adjusting subsequent travel plans.

Luckily, before leaving the park, we discovered the Crescent City visitor center had reopened (perhaps after their meetings concluded), and the staff member kindly allowed us to use the cancellation stamp.

We then continued to Medford for our overnight stay as originally planned.
