Our Journey Through Glacier National Park – A 1½-Day Itinerary

After flying from BWI to Kalispell (via Denver) and driving to the park’s Visitor Center, we began a short yet memorable exploration of Glacier National Park, Montana

Spanning the Continental Divide, Glacier is especially renowned for the legendary Going-to-the-Sun Road.

Day 1 – August 5, 2021

Lake McDonald

Our first stop was Lake McDonald, the park’s largest and one of its most iconic lakes. Its crystal-clear waters and multi-coloured stones created a peaceful and picturesque start to the trip.

McDonald Falls

A quick visit to McDonald Falls gave us a wonderful view of McDonald Creek cascading through a forested canyon, offering a scenic sight.

Trail of the Cedars

We continued with a relaxing walk along the Trail of the Cedars, a tranquil boardwalk path shaded by towering red cedars.

Day 2 – August 6, 2021

Going-to-the-Sun Road

The highlight of the day was driving the iconic Going-to-the-Sun Road, a spectacular route that winds through high terrain. With sweeping views, waterfalls, broad valleys, and steep cliffs, the drive was truly unforgettable.

Hidden Lake Trail

We set out on the Hidden Lake Trail, passing through meadows dotted with wildflowers and the mountain peak on the background. The overlook presented a breathtaking view of Hidden Lake and its surrounding landscape.

Baring Falls Trail

We concluded our visit with a gentle hike to Baring Falls, a charming waterfall. The shaded lakeside path offered a welcome respite, and the falls provided a peaceful setting to end our Glacier adventure.

We returned to Kalispell for the night and continued our journey the following day to Bozeman, beginning the next leg of our trip to Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks.
