Portland Sights in half a day

Before reaching Seattle in our road trip, we spent about half a day in Portland suburbs to visit multiple waterfalls and other scenic attractions.

Our Itinerary:

Intl. Rose Test Garden
Columbia Gorge viewpoints
Latourell Falls
Bridal veil Falls
Multnomah Falls

International Rose Test Garden

The garden is in the city itself and it gets the name because it serves as a testing ground for new rose varieties from around the world. The testing primarily done for disease resistance, color, fragrance, and other characteristics.

There are hundreds of varieties and types of roses here laid out in an orderly fashion. The rose beds are helpfully labelled with signs, and notes indicating which roses smell the most fragrant.

A good portion of the garden is accessible and there are plenty of benches for those who struggle with mobility.

There is no entrance fee and it is a great place to visit all through the year.

Columbia Gorge viewpoints

We visited multiple view points of which Crown Point & Vista House the most famous one offering a 360-degree panoramic view of the Columbia River Gorge.

We also explored three waterfalls that are easily reachable with a short walk from the parking area:

  • Latourell Falls – A breathtaking cascade.
  • Bridal Veil Falls – A picturesque and easily accessible waterfall.
  • Multnomah Falls – The tallest waterfall in Oregon, standing at 620 feet.
