Kainchi Dham Ashram is a sacred site established by Neem Karoli Baba, who is lovingly known to his followers as ‘Maharaj-ji’.
This ashram is revered by many, including notable figures like Julia Roberts, Steve Jobs, and Mark Zuckerberg.

A Temple, Not Just an Ashram
While referred to as an ashram, this location is viewed by devotees more as a temple. Maharaj-ji stayed here during the final decade of his life and built the central Hanuman temple.
The atmosphere at Kainchi Dham is profound. Visitors often sit in the areas surrounding the Hanuman temple and continuously chant the Hanuman Chalisa creating a divine experience.
A Meeting Place for Seekers
Kainchi Dham holds deep significance as the place where Maharaj-ji’s well-known disciple, Baba Ram Dass, met him and received his master’s blessings.
Baba Ram Dass is a famous American spiritual guru and the author of the book “Be here now“.
The place is often filled with crowds of people. It is accessible to those who stay in the Ashram as well as those who visit the temple during the day while staying in Nainital or nearby areas.
Location and Travel
The Kainchi Dham ashram is near the Himalayan mountain town of Nainital. It is located about 20 km away from the city. The place is well connected by roads.
We reached Kainchi Dham after three hours’ drive from Baba Ji’s cave.
Planning Your Stay
If you wish to stay overnight at the ashram, advance registration is necessary. You must request permission for your stay by writing to the manager. The visitors must also produce an introductory letter or a reference note from one of the older devotees.
Stays at the ashram are limited to a maximum of three days.
Samadhi Location
While Kainchi Dham is central to Maharaj-ji’s life and teaching, Neem Karoli Baba attained samadhi (passed away) in 1973 in Vrindavan city, which is located in Uttar Pradesh (UP), India. The samadhi temple for Maharaj-ji is located in Vrindavan.
